In 2018 Intel introduced Intel® Optane™ DC Persistent Memory, an Optane based persistent memory that fits right into the DIMM slots of your server.
Applications that have adapted to persistent memory can potentially use a lot more memory per-node, at a lower price, but at nearly the same performance as DRAM. If those applications are written correctly, this memory space can persist between reboots of the machine.
It's 2019 and PMEM is appearing in data center servers, and is in alpha testing at some cloud providers. It might not be long before PMEM is ubiquitous.
In the talk I will cover the Memory and App Direct modes of PMEM, and discuss the impact PMEM can have on databases.
